Supporting, appreciating and recognising the importance of community

-

THE local hospice is one of the most essential features of our community health system as it relies on the input of so many people across the county who give tirelessly and effortlessly of their time to help people through a difficult stage in life.

The hospice is an important part of Jones’ Eurospar where Michelle Jones is the Treasurer of the Killorglin Branch of the Kerry Hospice. The store raises money for the hospice through its in-store system whereby boxes are placed at each register. Also, when people purchase certain own-brand products a percentage of that sale goes directly to the hospice. Jones’ Eurospar have raised over €8,000 to the end of 2016.

In addition, the store contributes to local community groups, and sports clubs such as we sponsor the boys and girls basketball teams in Killorglin Community College. Staff and management really enjoy the daily interaction with customers and this is part and parcel of what makes any business a success, but more especially in a rural town, as Shane Jones explains:

“The community really matters to us and we not only like to keep ahead of what our customers need in terms of their shopping, but we appreciate the fact they choose to shop with us. Killorglin is a town that is well known in many parts of the world, but here at home it remains a small town at heart where everyone knows everyone. That’s an aspect that we enjoy and encourage in-store. We also like to roll in and try to support the community when we can as we value our customers.”

Supporting local producers and buying local products is also a policy at Jones’ Eurospar. This interaction with producers in the locality is very important as it helps to bolster a positive and rotating aspect to the local economy. Buying from local suppliers and making their products available in store to customers is something Jones’ Eurospar take pride in.
