Denny St resurfacing and Mall junction to be completed next

- By SIMON BROUDER

THE next main phase of the traffic realignment works in Tralee will involve the complete resurfacing of Denny Street.

Planing work on the street began this week and was due to be complete within three days.

Once this work is complete John A woods contractors will begin resurfacing the entire length of the street, a process that is expected to take about a week to finish.

After this, with alterations to footpaths to allow for parallel parking complete, work will begin to line out parking spaces and the road lanes.

Kerry County Council Senior Executive Engineer Tom Sheehy said the work on Denny Street was now at its most “difficult stage” but he is confident the work will be finished on or before the May 22 deadline when the new two way traffic system will be introduced .

He admitted the final stages of work on Denny Street would be disruptive but said every effort was being made to ensure traffic still flow freely as the works come to a close.

The crossing at the Ashe Hall leading towards Ivy Terrace has been completed.

As this requires seven days to ‘cure’ before it can be opened to traffic motorists will continue to be diverted around the rear of the Ashe Hall until next Wednesday.

Meanwhile, works on the junction of The Mall and Denny Street are continuing. Mr Sheehy said this is the most difficult aspect of the entire project and must be done in four phases.

Despite the complexity of the work he said he is hopeful that the new junction will be completed soon.

“We are working closely with the contractors and doing everything we can to expedite the process,” he said.wing delays on the diversion route along the North Circular Road traffic light signals for turns onto Edward Street from NCRD and from Edward Street onto Castle Street are to be modified to allow more cars through at each interval.
