Tina responding ‘very postively’ to cannabis oil but funds still needed
TEENAGER Tina McElligott from Kilfynn is said to be responding ‘very positively’ to cannabis oil treatment in Barcelona - with the duration and the number of seizures she is suffering in a day said to be dropping quite significantly.
The 16-year-old’s mother, Mags, flew with Tina to Barcelona last week to secure the use of cannabis oil in an attempt to alleviate Tina’s suffering, something which left her suffering 4 to 6 seizures a day at times, with some of the seizures lasting for over 40 minutes.
Since starting on the cannabis oil treatment last week, however, Tina’s seizures are said to have dropped to just one a day, with these seizures only lasting about 30 seconds - something which Angela Stack, a friend of the family says is very positive news.
“Instead of taking 22 to 25 tablets a day, which left her too tired to do anything, she now takes the oil twice a day; once in the morning and again in the evening, administered underneath her tongue. The seizures she is having now are not on a par with what she was experiencing in Ireland, her walking has improved and she’s even managed to buckle herself into her wheelchair,” Angela revealed.
Angela says that it will be at least three to four months before Tina and Mags will be able to return home and that the they are currently looking to move to a more permanent residence in the city. Because of this, along with the cost of the medicine, Angela says that more funds are needed to help the mother and daughter.
