Fenit cycle gets ready to hit the road

- By BRENDA O’ CONNOR

THE Annual Fenit RNLI 50km Cycle fundraiser will be taking place next Saturday, May 13 with the route for the cycle promising to be a scenic one: starting in Tralee, going through Farranfore and into Castleisland before looping back into the county capital.

Registration for the cycle will be held at O’Donnell’s Bar in Mounthawk on the morning of the race from 9.15am to 10.15am. A minimum entry fee of €40 applies, with the race due to begin at 10:30am, starting and finishing at O’Donnell’s.

All funds raised from the cycle will go directly towards supporting the great work being done by the Fenit Lifeboat Service while all participants on the day will be presented with lifeboat T-Shirts to commemorate their achievement - refreshments are set to be provided by the team at O’Donnell’s after the cycle.

This is the 15th annual Fenit Lifeboat Cycle, held in order to raise funds for the organisation. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and state, and largely depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service.

“Fenit RNLI volunteer crew members are willing to drop everything to go and save lives at sea when their pagers beep,” said Fenit Lifeboat Chairman Mike O’ Connor

“We are extremely grateful to our crew and our RNLI supporters who contribute financially at events such as this to help us deliver that service to any person who may need it.

“This is a great opportunity to support this essential service which relies almost entirely on contributions from the public.

“You can help by taking part, sponsoring one of the cyclists, or making a contribution on the day,” he said, adding “this is not to be missed.”

For entry forms or more information on the day itself, you can call Phyl on 087- 681 0368.
