KILLORGLIN’S ‘K-Fest Music and The Arts’ reaches a milestone in 2017 as it celebrates its fifth edition, and its launch on Thursday provided a few tasters ahead of a festival that aims to promote emerging art and music once again over the June bank holiday weekend.

Richard Molloy is among those involved with the festival, and promises that the upcoming running will once again transform the town.

“It’s carving a name for itself as one of Kerry’s more distinctive festivals,” he told The Kerryman.

“Each year the festival sees the town of Killorglin undergo a dramatic transformation as old and unoccupied buildings are morphed into quirky pop-up visual art galleries.

“It’s not just limited to visual arts though; we promote art, music, and literature in all their forms through galleries, live music, film, spoken word, children’s activities, and prizes,” Richard added.

This year’s festival theme is “The Future Is Bright,” which Richard said is a nod to “the infinite potential of our youth.” The theme runs through this year’s programming, with a variety of events planned to support and empower our youngest emerging artists, musicians, and other talents.

Looking through the event’s highlights, DJ Mark McCabe will serve as the judge of BREAKOUT, K-Fest’s competition for the country’s best emerging DJ producers, and participants will have a chance of scooping a recording package that would secure international airplay and a world-wide release for their music.

The festival will also offer two evenings of classical entertainment, as well as youth café sessions, a family-orientated Music Therapy Challenge, and plenty more besides, including an appearance by prize-winning Killorglin Entrepreneur, 13-year-old Dylan Mangan of burgeoning website granparentsmemories.com.

More than 70 events are planned for K-Fest 2K17, and a full timetable and further information can be obtained by visiting www.kfest.ie, or the K-Fest Music and the Arts Facebook page.
