Community group gets Inspired for catwalk
ONE of the most selfess groups currently operating in Tralee are getting set to take to the catwalk next Friday, June 16, for a fashion show that is bound to leave those in the crowd highly inspired.
The fashion show, set to be held in The Ballyroe Heights Hotel, is the main fundraiser for the group known as ‘Inspired’; they are a community based group that aims to develop the employment, education and personal development skills of adults with intellectual disabilities.
“Oh, there’s great excitement altogether, we had a big photoshoot today and they all got to dress up in their best gear and they even got to meet Daithí Ó Sé so the excitement was notched up to ninety,” said Marie O’ Connor, talking to The Kerryman on Friday.
“We did a similar fashion show back in 2014 and we had over 600 people attend and we were just blown away by the reception - we’ve our fingers crossed for similar numbers this time around.”
“The main aim of the night is to give these children and adults with learning disabilities a stage; they might have very few big events in life, they might not have a debs, weddings or engagements so this kind of night is their chance to shine.”
“They’re just looking forward to getting up on that stage all dressed up and they’ve even got a zumba routine planned,” she finished.
An event that managed to raise over €5,000 in 2014, organisers are hoping to raise similar funds this time around with the aim of being able to hire a full-time manager for the group.
Tickets will cost €15 and are available to buy from the Ballyroe Heights Hotel on the night and from the ‘ That’s Perfect’ shop on The Mall street in Tralee.
