New car for a hole-in-one!

- By KIERAN BARRETT

THIS year marks the third anniversary of the Kerry Stars Special Olympic Club Golf Classic, a significant fundraiser for the club as it helps with its day to day running.

And this year there are plenty of incentives for teams to participate, including the possibility of a brand new car for one lucky golfer, as Chairperson Tom Tobin explains.

“We have a bit of a novelty this year in that there is a Ford Focus worth €25,000 up for grabs for anyone who hits a hole-in-one on the second hole, which is of course a Par Three.”

Killarney Autos are offering the impressive prize and Dermot Moriarty said he was delighted to be involved with the event.

“I was approached by Tom and Denny, who are involved with the Kerry Stars and who asked me would we be interested in putting up a prize on the day. We are very privileged to be involved,” Dermot said, adding that he was looking at the car in the showroom as he spoke to The Kerryman and would be “delighted” if someone won it.

Meanwhile, Tom has thanked sponsors Killarney Credit Union for their continued involvement in the fundraising event. “Killarney Credit Union have been fantastic sponsors for the event and without them it would simply not have been possible,” he said

Asked how the event came into being, the chairman said that a team of four basically organised it three years ago as an annual fundraiser and it has taken off from there.

“The Golf Classic has allowed for the everyday running of the club from year to year,” he added.

Tom would also like to thank all those who have supported the event for the last two years and he has encouraged those same people to come on board again this year. “Each year we have had 50 teams with three players per team and the fee for each team is €180. This year the Golf Classic will be held on June 24, in Beaufort Golf Club and we already have 35 or 36 teams registered, so I would like to thank everybody for their continued support. There are also sponsored tee box signs available for €50,” he continued.
