Lybes Destiny lights up Kilmoyley NS benefit night

-

BENEFIT meetings at Tralee Track can be a very valuable source of revenue for those organising them, especially if proper work is put in at the organisational end, and those behind the benefit meeting for Kilmoyley National School at Tralee Track on Saturday night certainly hit the right notes on all fronts.

A terrific crowd was the first big thing, but there were so many others. A 96page programme was crammed with advertising, sponsorship was secured for every race, there was income from the sale of admission tickets and from a raffle on the night – and, yes, there was the €800 raised through an auction for a greyhound pup kindly donated to the organising committee.

Racing-wise, one performance really stood out above all the others and that was the run of 28.63 produced in the eighth race (A1 525) by Lybes Destiny, jointly owned by Daniel G McElligott and Donagh Buckley, of Duagh.

This May ’15 whelping by Kinloch Brae out of Denville Carol powerfully led the charge into the first bend from a trap 2 draw and, although even-money favourite, Razldazl Beth, threatened ominously rounding the third bend, Lybes Destiny (5/2) was most definitely not for catching and he hit the line two lengths ahead of Neilus O’Connell’s bitch for what was his fifth victory from nine starts.

No other winner managed to get inside 29.00secs on the night, which puts an extra gloss on the victory of Lybes Destiny.

The Browne family, of Listowel, pulled off a nice double with Lingering Xpress (18.07) and Coolagown Paws (29.15), while Roger O’Rahilly, of Ballymacelligott, who won the Irish Laurels in 1981 with Knockeen Master, sent out Knockeen Ridge to win the fifth race with Knockeen Ridge (17.84).

On the night that was in it, Goliath (29.57) was a popular 4/5 winner for Kilmoyley trainer, Padraig Regan, while the other winners were: Headleys Spectre (18.31), Slipalong Stacey (29.09), Nico (17.87), Belle Mixture (29.38) and Inislosky Patric (29.24).
