THE player who has the honour of captaining the side this year is Caolan O’Connor who plays with Camp Juniors and is a centre back while the vice captain is Kian Clancy who plays for Listowel Celtic and is a right back who specialises In free kicks.

Both boys said they were looking forward to the tournament and were honoured to be given the task of leading the team in the national competition..

The captain said his role would be to lead by example and give encouragement to everyone around him.

“It is a privilege and an honour to wear the County jersey and I will do my very best to do it justice. We have a great bunch of players who are giving great commitment and it is now a matter of producing the goods in Limerick. We competed in the Clare tournament some weeks ago and played 4 games winning two and losing two. It was good practice for us and gave us a taste of competitive football at a high level.

“Our main aim in the Kennedy Cup will be to win our group and it will be hugely important to win our first game against Drogheda as it will take off a bit of the pressure for the two games on Tuesday”

Kian Clancy the vice-captain says he is delighted to be appointed vice captain and he cant wait for the competition to come.

“We have worked hard on the training ground for the last 4 months and every player are very excited ahead of competition. Most young soccer players dream is to play in the Kennedy Cup and I am very privileged to get selected on the squad and fill the vice-captain’s role.”

The captain and vice captain will be close to each other in every game as they are both defenders.

Kian says his big influence in his life is his father Jimmy who played between the posts for Listowel Celtic.

He says his parents encouraged him all the way through the Emerging Talent Programme with his Dad taking him to all the training sessions and giving him great encouragement.
