THE Killarney derby was another thrilling affair at Ferndale on Sunday morning and Athletic came away with the bragging rights on this occasion with a 2-1 win in a game that had an explosive conclusion.

Cathal O’Shea put Celtic ahead when he rounded the Athletic keeper and scored from a tight angle and they were 1-0 up a the break.

Athletic drew level when Daithi Casey volleyed a rebound to the net.

The game seemed to be heading for a 1-1 draw as it went into added time but Athletics Mike Milner took the law into his own hands three minutes into added time with a stunning strike chipping the Celtic keeper Roy Kelliher for a top notch goal that sealed the game for Athletic.

Celtic’s Peter McCarthy was sent off late in the game leading to a degree of friction surfacing between the sides.

Further exchanges developed after the final whistle and two more red cards were produced

This win by Athletic clearly demonstrat­ed that they are very serious Premier A title contenders this season with a cup and league double a possibilit­y.

They will now meet Castleisla­nd in the semi-final. Mitchels Avenue 3 CSKA Tralee 0 MITCHELS Avenue are through to the semi-final after a comfortabl­e win over CSKA Tralee. Goalkeeper David Hennessy scored twice from the penalty spot while Nathan O’Leary completed the scoring for the winners.
