Tralee’s Lisa taking huge step for Autism

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

A YOUNG Tralee mother is set to take the ultimate leap of faith later this month as she throws herself out of a plane at the dizzying heights of over 12,000 feet, all in aid of a charity close to her heart, the Irish Autism Action (IAA).

Lisa Curran, a vocal coach at the Yamaha School of Music in Tralee, is the mother to six-year old Christopher who suffers from Autism and she will be taking part in the charity skydive in Edenderry in Offaly on June 24, along with 11 other people from Munster.

She says that while she’s entirely focused on the fundraising aspect of the dive at the moment, she knows that come the week of the actual jump, she will be “absolutely terrified!”

Having so far raised just under €400 for the IAA, she says that the help she has received from the IAA has been invaluable to her. “There’s lots of advice for children with autism but sometimes, there can be a lack of it for parents and how they can deal with,” said Lisa.

The IAA, they’ve released an awful lot of information to help the parents of children with Autism; they were always at the end of the phone for me, they always found the right names of people, they always found the right reading material and they put on so many courses around country that parents like myself can go to to learn about the different types of autism - they’re just fantastic,” she finished.
