Weeds choking unfinished part of business hub

-

WEEDS are choking the unfinished half of a business ‘ hub’ in Farranfore at a time when people are ‘crying’ out for units, owners Kerry County Council was warned last week.

Cathaoirleach of Killarney Municipal District Brendan Cronin called on the authority to develop the rest of the Farranfore Business Park as a matter of urgency in the interests of creating jobs. A number of businesses operate from the completed half of the park, but a second phase came a cropper in the crash - all that lies there now are special pre-cast pillars and a mess of weeds.

“Here we have gorgeous units built and utilised, but if you look around the remainder, all the pillars of the remaining units are in place but it’s lying idle, with briars growing through it,” Cllr Cronin said.

Pointing to its ‘ huge potential’ – adjacent to the railway station and within a mile of Kerry Airport – he said it would be an ideal location for other business and light industry at a time of great demand. “We have often met with people who are crying out for locations.”

The Council informed him the site forms part of a portfolio recently provided the IDA with a view to identifying economic development opportunities.

Ind Cllr Michael Gleeson called on the Council to clear the site to maximise its attractiveness to potential investors.
