Listry in grave danger after a fifth defeat in Division Two

DIVISION TWO

LEGION made a successful return to action in keeping their 100% record intact after a 0-12 to 0-8 win away to another East Kerry side in Listry that leaves the latter without any points from their five games thus far. Glenflesk are there with Legion on eight points in the table (with a game more played) after they had a seven point success away to Ardfert by 2-13 to 1-9.

Spa are third outright after a hard-earned point away to Currow that could have been a win save for a late ‘45’ converted by Currow goalkeeper Shane O’Leary. The visitors scored the opening goal of the game in taking a 1-10 to 1-3 lead at half-time, Alex Fleming getting Currow’s goal. The hosts were a much more formidable prospect in the second period as Daniel O’Shea scored a goal and was also fouled in getting a penalty which Mike Hanafin converted to put the game back in the balance. Points from John McMahon, Seamus Brosnan and Fleming appeared to give Currow their win but a late goal from Mike O’Donoghue had Spa back in front by a point. O’Leary’s late intervention ensured a draw at 3-11 to 2-14 however as the game finished at a frantic pace.

Beaufort had five points to spare over Kenmare Shamrocks meanwhile as Fergal Hallissey and Paul O’Connor both scored 11 points in proceedings, the former by virtue of 1-8. Kenmare had numerous goal chances in the first-half but only managed to score one through midfielder Donal O’Connor that had them in front by 1-7 to 0-9 at the break. Mike Breen scored a great point after the restart to bring the sides level and it was end-to-end at times but Hallissey’s goal came as an insurance one in a 1-20 to 1-15 win for the Mid Kerry side. Ronan Murphy impressed for the hosts as did Dara O’Shea for the visitors with Beaufort now travelling to Kilcummin on Saturday evening.

Kilcummin had a pretty eventful meeting with Listowel Emmets that saw them concede the first five points before going in front for the first time towards the end with Noel Kennelly having to rescue a draw for the hosts from a late free. Listowel’s goal would also come from Kennelly in the first-half as they led by 1-7 to 0-5 at half-time. Kilcummin were a lot more potent in the second period and didn’t let a penalty from Matthew Keane that came off the post affect them as Ian Devane drew the visitors level and Oscar O’Connor looked like giving them a comeback win only for Kennelly’s late intervention seeing the game end level at 1-11 to 0-14.

The other game saw St Pats/Blennerville pick up their second win of the campaign in securing a three point win at home to Waterville. They had led by 0-9 to 0-5 at half-time but survived a moment of danger when Stephen O’Dwyer appeared to be through for a goal only for Paudie Bailey to deal with his effort. Brendain Savage scored an important goal for the St Brendans side early in the second half that gave them the initiative but 1-8 in total for O’Dwyer kept the visitors in it but a Gary Savage insurance saw St Pats victorious by 1-17 to 1-14.

St Pats host Listry in a game the East Kerry side desperately need a result in this Saturday as Spa and Ardfert meet tomorrow (Thursday) night with Glenflesk versus Waterville, Legion hosting Emmets and Kenmare against Currow the other games this weekend.
