DENNY PREMIER B FINAL

Mastergeeha v Castleisland B

Sunday, June 18 Mounthawk Park at 2pm

THIS has been a very competitive division with the finalists only known after the last games of the season for the three sides involved - Castleisland, AC Athletic and Mastergeeha.

Mastergeeha had to get to the final the hard way as nothing short of a win would do for them last Sunday against Mastergeeha and they came up with the goods when the chips were down.

They will go into the final with a lot of confidence after their great exploits last Sunday but they know they face a stern test against a strong Castleisland side.

They are a side with a lot of experience and their spell in Premier A will stand to them in this game.

They will be relying on Tadhg Aherne, Paul and Colm Lenihan, Chris Egan, Ricky Fleming and Derry Aherne, Paudie O’Connor Tom Templeman, Padraig Nagle to lead by example and produce the type of performance that got them to the final last Sunday.

Castleisland are also a very strong side and can use a couple of their A panel to strengthen the squad further.

They also had to wait until the last game of the season to clinch a place in the decider and that experience will be to their benefit.

Castleisland will be looking for big performances from the likes of Kevin Moran, Ray Huggard, Mike Cahill, Mazza Moriarty, Daniel Downey, Jonathan Downey, Sean Og O Ciardubhain, Danny Feehan, Tommy Feehan, Stephen McCarthy and Matthew Browne.

Perhaps they may spring veteran Pa O’Rourke from the bench as he has a habit of scoring crucial goals in big games.

It should be a close game but Mastergeeha get the nod to take the cup to Kilcummin on Sunday evening.

DENNY PREMIER B

THIS division came to a very exciting conclusion on Sunday with the three teams in the title race in action with only two places up for grabs in the decider.

The match of the day was out in Kilbrean Park between Mastergeeha and AC Athletic. A draw would clinch a place in the final for AC while the home side needed to win to qualify for the final.

Understandably it was a very tense game but it was the home team that came out of top with a great 4-2 win. Colm Lenihan, Tom Templeman, Chris Egan and Paudie O’Connor scored for the winners. Jason Diggins and John Mike Dooley scored for AC Athletic.

Castleisland went into their final game against CSKA Tralee needing a point to get to the final and they had to work hard to etch out a 3-3 draw with goals from Danny Feehan, Stephen McCarthy and Niall Barrett and now they meet Mastergeeha in the final.

Mastergeeha and Castleisland now meet in the final at Mouthawk Park next Sunday at 2pm.
