Photos can depict the charm and wonder of a wedding day ...
Awedding photo is often the starting point in the timeline of a couple’s life together; the opening image of a journey and commitment to sharing many years ahead. For generations the wedding photo has served as a special heirloom and a cherished memento for children, grandchildren and friends, long after the wedding day has passed into the chambers of memory.
The idea behind this supplement is to capture the essence of the wedding photo. It is The Kerryman’s attempt to showcase to our readership the special place the wedding photo has in the wider wedding experience. All too often in today’s fast-paced world, photos on social media are in danger of overlooking a moment of real significance. There’s nothing wrong with ‘the snap and share’ approach, but given the deluge of images we scroll through we become somewhat desensitised to a photo of meaning and if there’s one genre that deserves its own space to shine, it’s the wedding photo.
This competition asked couples to share wedding photos and we received over 100 entries from all over the county illustrating their popularity and prominence in the lives of couples. Each photo depicts the character, style and romance of the wedding photo from such vantage points as scenic cliffs, rustic buildings, bustling streetscapes and even with adorable pets.
This collage also captures the personality of each couple and their interpretation of what symbolises a wedding photo. Some have opted for the traditional, while others bring a more modern take on an old favourite. The criteria is the same, but the composition is varied and wonderful on so many levels.
“This selection of treasured wedding photos is a snapshot of the different styles that now exist in the interpretation of a wedding photo,” said Kevin Hughes, editor of The Kerryman.
“Each photo has its own distinct character, even if the overall message is the same. This is one of the charms of the supplement and we are delighted that so many couples decided to share their photos with us,” he added.
The winner will be announced on The Kerryman Facebook page this Thursday (June 15th) and the winning photo will be published in next week’s edition of The Kerryman.
Good luck to all entrants
