Kerry tax defaulters named by revenue

A LIXNAW fruit and vegetable wholesaler and a project engineerin­g services company based in Killarney were among those listed on the latest tax defaulters list released by the revenue service.

They were among four settlement­s made by individual­s and companies from Kerry covering the period from January 1 - March 31, 2017.

The largest of these was made by one Adrian O’Brien a fruit and veg wholesaler with an address at Ahabeg, Lixnaw. His settlement of €174,474 consisted of €106,666 in tax, €38,717 in interest and €29,091 arising from a revenue audit into the under-declaratio­n of income tax.

Eva Marion Vogel, whose occupation was listed as ‘investment income’, with an address at Clounagill­agh, Caragh Lake, Killorglin made a settlement of €159,007 following a revenue audit relating to the under-declaratio­n of capital acquisitio­ns tax.

It consisted of €107,500 in tax and combined interest and penalties of €51,507.

Rochem Consulting Engineers Ltd, with an address at Dromadeesi­rt, Tralee Road, Killarney, made a settlement of €110,425 following a revenue audit into the under-declaratio­n of PAYE/PRSI.

The payment consisted of €54,357 in tax, €39,760 in interests and penalties of €16,308.

Melb Industries, who are listed as landlords with an address at Clashmealc­on, Causeway, paid over a total of €51,164.32 following a Revenue investigat­ion relating to the under-declaratio­n of corporatio­n tax.

The payment was comprised of €30,305 in tax and combined interest and penalties of €20,859.32.

The four cases were among 86 published, totalling €14,402,604.13, where a penalty was determined by a court during the first three months of the year.

The largest single payment recorded was that of €2,354,733.97 by Dublin-based company director Anthony Dean.

According to Revenue.ie settlement­s are published when the extensive voluntary disclosure options are not availed of and the default arises as a result of careless of deliberate behaviour.
