The Kerryman (North Kerry)

No injury worries for Kerry

Moran likely to resume his midfield role

KERRY boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice has reported no injury worries ahead of this weekend’s Munster senior football final in Fitzgerald Stadium against Cork (Sunday, throw-in 2pm).

It means that the Finuge man will have the strongest possible hand to choose from and the strongest hand he’s had to choose from all season.

While it’s impossible to determine who Fitzmaurice will select when the team is released on Friday evening, it would seem a good bet that Kerins O’Rahillys David Moran will force his way back into the starting fifteen having missed the Clare match with a calf injury.

The other big returnee who could force his way into the starting fifteen is Killian Young. Should Fitzmaurice opt to return the Renard man to the starting fifteen it would allow him to reposition Paul Murphy on the half-forward line where he’s played a lot of football for Kerry over the past two seasons.

As ever, this is just speculation at this stage. Fitzmaurice’s thoughts are known only to himself and his inner sanctum.

The Kerry boss is known to place a high premium on form in training so we must assume places are up for grabs.

Fitzmaurice does, however, accept that this weekend’s game with the Rebels is a dangerous one for the Kingdom, who go into the game as overwhelming favourites. He also feels that the decision to play the game in Killarney might just suit the visitors.

“There would have been a lot of pressure attached to it being the first match in the new Páirc Uí Chaoimh from Cork’s point of view,” he said.

“We would have been in the situation where we were gong up there to have a cut so there’s no doubt that it does remove an element of pressure from them.

“There is that element of having nothing to lose even though there is a lot to lose – a Munster final – but I think they will have that mentality that they don’t have anything to lose, and a team that has nothing to lose is very dangerous.

“Our preparation won’t change, it’s a Munster final, it’s a huge game, Cork coming to Killarney love to have a cut off Kerry. Regardless of the negative talk that’s out there about Cork, and how poor they are, they’ll know that if they were to come to Killarney and beat Kerry, everything else is forgotten.

“They’ll have won a Munster final and be into an All-Ireland quarter-final and away you go.”
