Conor’s third win in Cordal

- Padraig Harnett

THE Currow Cycling Club’s round of the Clubs of Kerry Road Race League saw the biggest turn-out of the season. The race was held around the short circuit in Cordal and it led to an exciting night’s racing.

The A4’s put in a massive effort stayed two minutes clear for most of the race. The big move was by initiated by George Doyle saw three riders, Doyle, Denis Lynch and Conor Kissane get clear from the scratch group before they caught the front of the race.

Once they did this they decimated the field in the last five laps of the hour and five laps race. Then it was a tactical shootout with each of the three having a go with Kissane timing his move to perfection 500 metres from the finish to nail his second win on the circuit from the fast finishing Doyle who pulled it back to two bike lengths at the line.

Former international rider and Sliabh Luachra member Lynch came home almost a minute clear of the tight bunch sprint won by Leigh Hewderdine from Killarney CC. Tralee Manor West iBike team mates Jake Deering and Ross Culloty who are also two of Kerry’s young prospects for the future rounded off the point winners on the night.
