Jimmy Darcy DIVISION 1
AUSTIN Stacks had a very comfortable win over St. Eunans (Donegal) in their opening game, winning out by 8-7 to 0-1. Their goal-scoring prowess came to the fore again against Skerries (Dublin), for a 4-5 to 0-10 victory. That put them into a semi-final as group winners but they lost out in a superb game to Rossa Gaels by 3-9 to 3-6.
DIVISION 2
NA Gaeil played very well, but were unlucky to go down by 3-6 to 3-4 against London and then 2-7 to 2-3 to Bailieborough. They beat Butlersbridge by 0-9 to 1-2 to reach the semi-final of the Division Two Shield, but lost out by 3-5 to 1-6 to Ballyhaise.
DIVISION 5
ARDFERT lost out by 3-8 to 1-10 in their opener against Buttevant but recovered to beat Mullahoran by 4-3 to 3-4 in a cracker and beat Castlerahan by 4-7 to 0-2 to qualify for the Cup. They went down to Dicksboro by 2-6 to 0-5 in the Cup quarter-final.
DIVISION 10
CURROW beat Lámh Dhearg by 3-12 to 0-1 to 1-4 to make a flying start. Next up was Ballybay Pearse Brothers and Currow won even more convincingly by 4-14 to 0-1. Derrynoose Blues were up next and went down by 1-8 to 1-4.
That saw Currow qualify comfortably for the quarter-final against Grangemolvin of Kildare, and Currow won a great game by 1-9 to 2-4. They met Sean Mac Cumhaills of Donegal in the semi-final and notched up another strong tally of 3-9 while conceding just 1-1.
That made for great excitement as they went to the final, all vibrant colour and noise, and it paid off in spades as a talented Currow side lifted the cup after beating Clann na Banna of Down by 2-10 to 0-5 for a historic victory.
OF course, the fixtures and results are not the point of Féile, but the fact that young players got to make loads of new friends and have a great time. Míle buíochas to the players, mentors, supporters, and hosts of all teams.
