Brilliant success last weekend at the county Athletics in An Riocht. Ballyheigue community games had fantastic results with 8 kids qualifying for the finals on Sunday. Massive congratulations to our 1st place winner Stephen Harty who won the U8 60m followed closely by Ben O’Connor who came in 3rd place. We also had a 2nd place with Aaron Horgan in the U12 600m. It’s great to see Athletics on the up in Ballyheigue. All our kids got to participate in the parade on Saturday which was a delight to see. Thanks to all the parents who travelled and supported all children, your support was an inspiration. Very best of luck to Stephen Harty with your upcoming training for the National games. ST. OLIVER’S N.S.
It is with regret that our 40th birthday celebration open day must be deferred to September. The work to complete the school yard and surrounding area has begun and will continue during the summer months. In September we hope to have our "Buy A Brick" wall engraving in place so that all who contributed to the project will be able to see this and the completed project. We would like to thank again all those who helped us with this project, the generosity of the people of Ballylongford locally and further afield was hugely appreciated.
DONAL O’NEILL R.I.P.
It was with extreme sadness and shock that the local community learned of the passing of one of its most respected and staunch members when news filtered through on Wednesday evening last June 21st that Donal O’Neill R.I.P. of Rusheen, Ballylongford had slipped from our midst.
One of nature’s finest gentlemen Donal was indeed a wonderful neighbour, friend but above all a very dedicated and loving family man whose family meant everything to him. A very kind hearted and jolly person he loved a bit of fun and banter and enjoyed life despite having worked hard all of his adult life.
He travelled the length and breadth of this Country working as a foreman for Atlantic Plant Company (A.P.C.) in the construction and repairs of Boilers for the E.S.B and indeed other big named companies. His introduction to this type of work began in the early 70’s when he worked for Dublin Erection in the building of
