Danny to power up Sneem car races
SPURRED on by TD Danny HealyRae’s claim that electric cars couldn’t cut it in a trip from Sneem to Caherdaniel, the ‘Sneem Sustainable Energy Community’ will now try to achieve this remarkable feat at Sunday’s ‘Electric Car Run’ starting at 12pm in Sneem Village. It’s all part of the ‘ Turn Sneem Green For 2017’ summer festival when a mini convoy of electric cars will set off from the village and Deputy Healy-Rae has kindly agreed to take part in the fun event.
Danny made the remarks in a Dáil debate on the UN Paris Agreement in October 2016 when claiming electric cars were not sustainable and couldn’t cut it in the real world. But while Danny remains firm in his stance over climate change, he’s only too happy to take part in Sunday’s event.
“They were making ridiculous suggestions in the Dáil one day when I said ‘wouldn’t you look nice now trying to travel from Sneem to Caherdaniel in an electric car looking for a place to plug it in to?’ I don’t agree with the direction this climate change debate is going, but I do support alternative forms of sustainable and green energy, ’” said the Kilgarvan Deputy.
He added: “Sneem was one of the first places I ever went to a dance and I know every man, woman and child there. My late father even drove a hackney car there one Christmas when they were busy. I’m only too happy to go down there and help out in any way I can.”
Sneem Summer Festival will also host green energy demos and tips on bee keeping, grey water usage, solar and hot water PV, wood gas and bio gas. The festival runs from Wednesday 19 to Sunday 23.
