‘The local aspect of our business matters to us’

-

MURPHY’S SuperValu in Kenmare is a staple of everyday life in the town employing upwards of 60 people in full and part-time positions. The Murphy family have spent over three decades in the retail trade and the family and staff understand how important it is to look after customers.

The importance of the ‘ local’ might sound like a cliché, but only in a small town is its true meaning understood. With this in mind, Murphy’s SuperValu place the community to the fore by supporting as many locally led initiatives it can. For example, their involvement in the Tidy Towns and local GAA club is a case in point where currently they are in the process of providing a football to all U8s in the local GAA club. This initiative will help to keep young people active and encourage the youngsters to follow in the footsteps of their local heroes.

Food is also a major player these days and at Murphy’s SuperValu in-store chef, Philip, busily prepares fresh food to a high standard that is ready to go, while their Bakery is going from strength to strength.

Derry Murphy considers the store more than just a place of business. It’s a place where locals like to meet and discuss what’s going on locally and this sort of atmosphere is what sets it apart from the competition.

“We’re in business for over 30 years, 10 of which are in this store. The local aspect of our business really matters to us as we try and incorporate the running of the store as seamlessly as possible with day to day life in the community,” said Derry Murphy.

He concluded: “Be sure to come down to SuperValu and check out some of our fantastic offers available. You’ve asked for lower prices and we’ve delivered.”
