Valentia lawyer gets key US role with Matheson
A KERRY solicitor has been appointed to head international Irish law firm Matheson’s new office in San Francisco.
Valentia born Mark O’Sullivan – the firms US West Coast Head Partner – has worked at the firm’s Palo Alto Office since 2007.
Matheson concentrates on serving the Irish legal needs of internationally focused companies and financial institutions doing business in and from Ireland. Matheson’s clients include the majority of the Fortune
100 companies and it advises seven of the top 10 global technology brands and over half of the world’s 50 largest banks.
Matheson is headquartered in Dublin and also has offices in London and New York as well as Palo Alto and the new office in San Francisco.
More than 650 people work across Matheson’s five offices, including 80 partners and tax principals and over 350 legal and tax professionals.
Mark first moved to Matheson’s Palo Alto office in 2007, at a time of significant volatility in the Irish and global economy.
He advises international companies on all aspects of establishing operations and doing business in Ireland, including international tax planning, cross-border reorganisations and inward investing and structuring.
“The US West Coast is an important technology and innovation ecosystem with significant investment into Ireland. Face to face relationships are as important to us as they are to our clients - and all of our global offices are partner-led,” said Mr O’Sullivan.
“The global technology industry is booming, fuelled by advancements in emerging areas such as AI and data analytics. Post-Brexit, Ireland, with an already large presence of technology multinationals, has the capacity to benefit from additional US investment into Europe. The opening of our San Francisco office will support our continued collaboration with our clients and help them to remain competitive as they deal with the complexity of the current market conditions,” he said.
“Furthermore, working with the strong Irish Government support network and the IDA on the West Coast, we can play a part in integrating more of these companies into Ireland, ultimately creating revenue growth and jobs opportunities,” said Mr O’Sullivan.
A graduate of UCD Mark O’Sullivan is originally from Valentia where his parents Eugene and Julie O’Sullivan still live.
Mark regularly speaks on international tax issues at Tax Section meetings of the American Bar Association and he has presented at a number of Tax Executives Institute (TEI) seminars.
