The history man about town… Gerry Enright

-

GERRY Enright is, quite literally, the man about town when it comes to history for Gerry has helped enlighten many a passing tourist to Cahersiveen about its rich and cultured past.

The town of Cahersiveen and its surrounding areas has a long and interesting history and thanks to Gerry, through the Cahersiveen Guided Walking Tours, he has helped create what can be described as an entertaining, storytelling journey from the mists of time to the current day.

“A short stroll around the historical sites of Cahersiveen will bring you on a long journey through history. There are stories that bring to life remarkable episodes from some extraordinary characters in this area,” said Gerry.

Secret pacts between ancient Kings and Vikings, Daniel O Connell and his rise to glory, the Canon and the Pope, Monsignor Hugh O’ Flaherty - ‘ The Pimpernel of the Vatican’, - and Sigerson Clifford are just a sample of the history the guided tours help bring to life.

This is not just important from a tourist perspective, but also as a means of keeping Cahersiveen’s history alive and vibrant for the next generation of young minds in the locality.

“People also enjoy some poetry and maybe even a bit of a song along the way too. The tours take a little over an hour and are reasonably priced. People love a more interactive approach to history,” Gerry added.

Two tours run daily from Monday to Friday at 10am and 12pm (other times by appointment). For more information contact Gerry Enright on 086-8587680 or by email gerrykerry@gmail. com. Tours start outside the Cahersiveen Community Resource Centre (The Old Library).
