CO LEAGUE

Mountcollins were well beaten by Athea in the Co League last weekend. with Scartaglen GAA club hosted the first Jack Rahilly Memorial blitz in Scartaglen GAA grounds on Saturday 15th of July. This blitz consisted of mixed (boys and girls playing) U12 players. 6 clubs took part in this event, Scartaglen, Desmonds, Currow, Cordal, Ballymac and Knocknagoshel/Brosna. It proved to be a most enjoyable and successful day for all involved, great footballing skills were displayed by all teams. The future of Kerry football for men and ladies looks safe looking at the performances shown by the boys and girls playing that day. Jerome O Driscoll sang beautifully Amhrán na bhFiann before the 3 finals. Well done to all the clubs and congratulations to Ballymac U12 team who won the Jack Rahilly Memorial Cup against Desmonds U12 team in a most exciting, thrilling final that went to extra time and then onto the Golden score. Jack’s grand-daughter Róisín Rahilly, captain of the Ballymac team was presented with the cup by her grandmother Mary Rahilly. Well done to Currow U12 who won the Shield final and Cordal U12 who won the Plate final.

Jack was surely watching proudly from above at his 3 grandchildren taking part in this blitz, Muireann Rahilly and Dara Rahilly who captained the Scartaglen team, Róisín Rahilly, captain for Ballymac and his grand-nephew Patrick O’ Shea and grand-niece Áine Murphy who both captained the Desonds team. Jack Rahilly was a passionate GAA man and a very proud Scartaglen Clubman and at the time of his death was one of the club’s presidents. The Rahilly family would like to thank Scartaglen Club for hosting this Blitz and everyone around who came together and worked to make the day the huge success it was. It reflected what community spirit is all about. Mickey Rahilly of Chicago, Jack’s brother kindly sponsored the Cup and Gerard and Vincent Murphy kindly sponsored the Shield and Plate.

Also thanks to our 3 referees on the day Tom McCarthy, Brian Fleming and Denny O’ Sullivan. Míle Buíochas.
