All-Ireland U14 Blitz

THE Kerry U-14 Camogie team claimed All-Ireland honours last Saturday when they won the All-Ireland Blitz Finals in Dublin.

Based at the Craobh Chiarain club in north Dublin Kerry beat Down in their first game, before recording wins over Wicklow and then Armagh. Kildare were next and although the Lilywhites looked the stronger team, Kerry’s skill level was better and they ran out easy winners.

Kerry got a bye to the Division 4 final where they faced Roscommon who beat Mayo in the semi-final. Roscommon got off to a terrific start and their full forward had two goals inside the first four minutes. Kerry made a few changes and they settled down to play some great camogie with skill and determination. They got two goals through star forward, Amy O’Sullivan, one a great individual effort, but two more Roscommon goals left the half time score Roscommon 4-0 Kerry 2-1.

The second half was a tight affair with scores hard to come by. With five minutes left Kerry were awarded a 21-metre free, which Amy O’Sullivan goaled from to make it a two-point game.

Moments later O’Sullivan gathered Ellen O’Donoghue’s long delivery and stuck the ball in the net before tapping over a free to seal the victory.

Caitlin Guerin and Chloe Casey accepted the cup on behalf of the panel, as Amy O’Sullivan won her fourth All-Ireland title in one year

Many thanks to the Management team of John Sheehan, Joe Walsh, Diane Jeffers, Gina O’Donoghue and Richard McCluskey.
