MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Rd1 v Ballyheigue Saturday next September 16th @4pm in Ballyheigue. Please show your support for the team and management.

IHC v Kilgarven resulted in a well deserved victory for us on a score line 5-17 to 2-15, thus ending a 17 year famine in this competition. Brendan O’Connor was the thorn in Kilgarven’s side with a personal tally of 2-9 and being a worthy Man of the Match recipient. Kilgarven started the brighter and after three minutes were ahead 1-2 to 2p, but that was as good as it got for them. Shane Griffin was our first goal scorer on the 15th minute with Brendan O’Connor adding 1-1 within a minute to put us ahead 2-5 to 1-4. Jack McCarthy added another goal and Brendan O’Connor added another 3p. Half time 3-10 to 1-5. Kilgarven started the brighter in the second scoring 2p on the resumption, but Brendan O’Connor & Shane Griffin added further points before Gearoid Sheehan added our fourth goal. In the 40th minute the scoreline read 4-11 to 1-8, thus ending the game as a contest, but to be fair to Kilgarven they kept plugging away at the scores. For the remainder of the game we saw some fine scores from Brendan O’Connor and Kilgarven got in for a goal on the 24th minute of the second half but it was too little too late and when referee John Hennessey blew the final whistle they were joyful scenes. John O’Leary County PRO presented the Corn Antaine Ui Mhurchu to winning captain Denis Moriarty. Brendan O’Connor was named the worthy Man of the Match after the game. The team lined out as follows: TJ Stack, Michael Davis, Eamon Corridon, Jim McCarthy, Kieran Fitzgerald 1f, Denis Moriarty (C), Killian Woulfe, Adrian Nolan, Eoghan Kearney, Jack McCarthy 1gl, John Galvin 1p, Padraig Kearney 1p, Shane Griffin 1-4, Gearoid Sheehan 1gl, Brendan O’Connor 2-9. Subs used: Conor Flaherty, Pa Donegan, JohnPaul Leen, Donal Moriarty & Liam O’Sullivan.

A HUGE THANK YOU to the management team of Maurice Kearney, Jeremiah Clifford, Pajoe Clifford & Tom Kelly and hurling coaches David Leen & Liam O’Connor.
