Suzanne in world triathlon quest
Local HSE head of services and Currans native, Suzanne O’Sullivan travelled to Rotterdam in her role with the Irish team competing in the World Triathlon Championships in the Dutch city.
Suzanne’s achievements in making the Irish team have been chronicled, appropriately enough, in the autumn 2017 edition of the health magazine, Natural Life.
Cycling, swimming and running are all involved in the competition the Irish team faced in Holland during the championships.
I managed to get a few words with Suzanne before she left to join her colleagues last week.
She told me that a present of a bike from Santa when she was only four years old set her on the path she’s now on.
“For some reason I was completely fascinated by the bike and it never left me,” said Suzanne.
“I saw an entry for for a triathlon in 2008 and I thought here’s a competition with swimming and running and cycling – all the disciplines I love and have been training in.
“I had a go and haven’t looked back since and I love it.
There’s more to training in Suzanne’s regime and she all but mentions the Castleisland and Abbeyfeale based Slice of Life Health Food stores as her fountain of replenishment. And she mentioned Kate Walsh among her greatest sources of encouragement.
“Before the national Series in 2016 I was training and was looking for healthy ways and ideas to aid in my recovery after training.
“I visited my local health food store and came across ‘One Nutrition P4-MAX’ I started taking it because it supports the immune system during and after intensive, physical exercise and I soon noticed that my recovery was much quicker.
“This enables me to train and perform at a higher level, my performance times are better and my energy levels are higher,” she concluded.
Suzanne also mapped out a frightening training schedule that would tire you reading it not to mention attempting it – at any fitness level other than the one in which she operates and which has taken her to the top of her chosen pursuit.
