Top 5 Tips for an autumn wedding

-

COVER IT:

There’s no doubting that autumn is truly a spectacular season; one that combines the last of the summer warmth with the odd reminder that it’s winter’s time to take the stage. But for the most part autumn is a mild season and this is a great time to make a roof a priority when hosting events. Be sure to factor in an orangery, canopy or conservatory as part of the reception. Most hotels now pride themselves in catering for that inside/outside feel. This way you get to enjoy those changeable autumnal temperatures.

SEASON IT:

Foodies are everywhere these days and you won’t venture far without chatting to someone who is keen to talk about food. If you happen to be a foodie at heart, then you’ll know autumn is a great time to show it. After all, it’s harvest time. Make sure the hotel sources locally grown vegetables. Why not incorporate blackberries and blackcurrants in the dessert? Give you wedding meal a real seasonal twist.

THINK PRACTICAL:

Autumn evenings can get very chilly and chances are guests will be full of warmth from the reception. Be sure to have a basket in the hotel lobby with throws or shawls neatly rolled up, or even some umbrellas. This is handy late in the evening when guests are going to and from cars, etc. it’s a thoughtful and considerate touch that won’t be lost on your guests.

MAKESEASONALPROPS:

This is probably the easiest and most seasonally decorative you can be. Be sure to source some old twigs or small branches and use them as table centrepieces. Another idea is to cut a branch (around 2 inch diameter) into short piece 4 inches long. Make a slit in the branch deep enough to hold a card with the guest’s name. These can be placed at the table to show where people must sit. It’s cheap, easy and hugely seasonal in appearance. Be original.

THINKBRONZEANDBROWN:

These are the colours we most associate with autumn so why would you overlook them at your reception? Nothing feels as out of sorts as something that is unseasonal, which is why you should trust your senses and go for bronze and brown coloured styles. This can consist of dry flower arrangements in the reception area, brown garlands draping from curtains that evoke seasonal hues. Even a few pumpkins (uncarved, of course) placed at the foot of tables with some dried leaves scattered around can look the biz.
