SENIOR TOWN LEAGUE: Ballymac 2-16 John Mitchel’s 0-7

John Mitchel’s came to Ballymac with realism on Saturday night last. The team that The Boherbee fielded was depleted due to injuries and the one bright note for was the return of Brian Costello after almost a year of being laid off with an injury.

It was clear from the start that a focused Ballymac side, lead by inspirational Captain Padráig McCarthy, were not going to be caught napping on this occasion and the home quite comfortably qualified for a Town Board Final meeting with Kerins O’Rahilly’s at a date to be fixed,Ballymac were quickly into their stride and they had four points on the board to John Mitchel’s two after fifteen minutes. Ballymac dominated the next fifteen minutes and at halftime, the men in Green and Gold were in arrears by 12 points to 3. An uphill climb for the visitors was made even steeper within five minutes of the resumption when Luke Sweeney scored an excellent goal. Both Goalies Paul O’Connor and Padráig Laide saved their teams at vital times during this final half. The game was more or less ended as a contest when Darragh Regan scored the second goal for the home side with 10 minutes left on the clock. The final score was Ballymac 2-16 to John Mitchel’s 0-7. Ballymac now face Na Gaeil on Sunday next in the County Senior League Division 3 Final at home in Ballymac at 2.00pm

They then travelled to Dingle and came away with the spoils after another great performance. Their most recent game last week also saw them victorious against Churchill away. This leaves them in a great position entering the final 2 rounds. Our Blue team resumed competitive action last Tuesday evening away to Kerins O Rahillys in the Tralee Town league. The girls played some great football winning on a score line of 6-9 to 2-7. With our forwards in great goal scoring form Emily O Donoghue ended the game with for goals to her credit, but huge credit to the other forwards who made the runs and space for Emily to rattle the net on four occasions. With our back tightening up in the second half, namely Roisin Long, Aoife Galvin and Holly Geary chances were hard come by for the strand road girls. Emily O Brien and Sinead McKeown put in great hours work in midfield and up front Cora Savage linked the play well and got on the score sheet on numerous occasions, ably assisted by Roisin Rahilly, Alyssa Leen and Mary Ann Fleming. Girls u12

Our gold team played 2 games in the recent weeks in the town league v St Pats Blennerville and Austin Stacks B. Both games were very entertaining with the Ballymac girls displaying great spirit and no little skill in both. The St Pats game saw Nicole Walker, Alice Brosnan and Laura Kelly give great displays as well as goalie Sarah Mason. Jill Quirke scored 3 points on the night but the goal we craved didn’t materialise as St Pats prevailed on the night.

On Sunday 10th Sept last the gold team played Austin Stacks B in the town league div 2 B final, despite the conditions on the day it was a very entertaining game. While Stacks played with the elements in the 1st half our defence were magnificent as they blocked, hassled and cleared an amount of ball. Anna Collins, Alice Brosnan and Aisling Bailey in the full back line and the half back line of Laura Kelly, Aoibhin Brodrick and Aoife Sweeney ensured the half time score was 2 pts to no score and the 2nd half looked promising. However Stacks got 2 goals against the run of play leaving the girls deflated on a 2-3 to 2 pts scoreline. The girls should be very proud of their displays in the town league and showed that when they had to perform without the more established players they certainly could, a lot of the team are under 12 again next year so they will be better for the experience as will the likes of Nicole Walker, Lauren O Connor and Allie Tarrant who just started playing football this year and have showed plenty promise. Blue Team Div 1 : On Tuesday the 12th Sept we played Austin Stacks A in the town league div 1. Conditions on the nights proved difficult on the night as wind blew mostly accross the pitch slightly favouring the team playing into the dressing room end. Stacks were really up for this and stared off in flying form netting a goal within the first 5 mins and added 2 points before we woke up. Ella Quirke, Orla O Conner and Alexia Weiss dragged us back into the game, Alexia at full back was immense and Ella drove us forward winning ball at midfield, she also knocked over 2 great points from play. Half time 1-2 to 2 points. The break worked well for us and appeals for a better displays in the second half was heeded by all the girls, from the throw in a cracking goal from Rachel Griffen had us level. Roisin Rahilly put us ahead shortly after with a good point, 5 mins later Ella Quirke slotted home a good goal from an angle to leave us up by 4. Stacks rallied again and added 2 points and had a couple of goal chances which Kerry Hennesy came to our rescue. We held out for a 2-3 to 1-4 win. Ella Quirke’s return of 1-2 was matched with her workrate on the night in a 5 star display but the overall team performance in the 2nd half in poor conditions was very impressive. Kerins O Rahilly’s are up next on Tuesday 19th at 6.30 pm in Ballyrickard while the finals are due to be played in Ballyrickard Friday evening 22nd Sept Golf Classic: Ballymac will host the 2017 Golf Classic in Beaufort Golf Club on Saturday of Octobe 7, the cost of entry €160 per team.
