CULTURE NIGHT
Culture Night will be celebrated on this Friday night September 22nd and there are a whole lot of events and activities going on nationwide and county wide to celebrate this occasion. At local level Maggie Prendiville Keane will give a talk at The Padraig O Keeffe Memorial in Scartaglen which will be about the memorial itself and the artist who executed the work, the late Mike Kenny. Eamon Fleming will also speak in relation to this matter.
The time for these talks is 7pm, weather permitting. At 7.30pm in Scartaglen Heritage Centre the new series of Handed Down for 2017-18 will be launched as part of the Sliabh Luachra Music Trail by the Lord Mayor of Kerry John Sheehan and Kate Kennelly, Kerry County Arts Officer. Afterwards there will be snacks and refreshments with a music session given by John Daly, Emma O Leary and Con Moynihan. Joint Organiser PJ Teahan will have an exhibition of photographs also on the evening.
PJ and Mick Culloty wish to invite all who were involved in the Padraig O Keeffe Memorial Committee and also those involved with the Scartaglen branch of Comhaltas/Feile Cheoil Committee 1983. All will be welcome. So come along for a great evenings entertainment in the heart of Sliabh Luachra.
WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES
Any couples celebrating a significant wedding anniversary this year might like to go along to a special wedding anniversaries mass which will be celebrated in Castleisland Parish Church on this Saturday evening September 23rd at 6.15pm. Light refreshments will be served in the River Island Hotel after this mass. Anyone who would like to attend should contact the Parish Office at (066) 7141241 with their names.
PIONEER GATHERING
A special gathering of members of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association will take place in The Woodlands House Hotel, Adare on Sunday October 1st. The theme of the day which will start at 10.30am is “Rekindling the Pioneer Flame”. There will be discussions and addresses and lunch is at 1.30pm. The day will close with mass celebrated by Most Rev Dr. Brendan Leahy, Bishop of Limerick. This will be an all Munster get together. WEDDING BELLS
Congratulations and all best wishes are extended to Catherine Forde, daughter of Eileen and Donal Forde of Gortacoppal and Padraig O’ Leary, son of Breda and Tadgh O’ Leary of Ballymacelligott who were married on Friday September 8th in Our Lady of Lourdes Church Scartaglin. The celebrant of the nuptial mass was Fr. John Fitzgerald. Catherine and Padraig held their reception in the Muckross Park Hotel Killarney. They will reside in Ballymac.
DANCING
There will be dancing in Kilcummin GAA Hall on this Wednesday night September 20th commencing at 9.30pm sharp. Music will be provided by Denis Crowley and James Kelliher.
KNOCK PILGRIMAGE
The Legion of Mary are organising a pilgrimage to Knock on Sunday September 24th. The bus will leave the Church of the Resurrection, Park Rd Killarney at 6.15am on that morning with pick ups at Farranfore (near Airport), Castleisland and Abbeyfeale. YOUTH CLUB REGISTRATION
Scartaglin Youth Club will be resuming activities shortly and the club are holding a registration evening on this Thursday September 21st from 7pm to 8pm in the Heritage Centre. One parent must attend with any child/ children registering on the night. Registration fee is €10.
GAA LOTTO DRAW
Scartaglin GAA Club’s latest Lotto Draw took place in Flemings Bar on Sunday evening September 10th. The Jackpot was €9,600 and was not won. Numbers drawn were: 4, 8, 9, 14. Consolation prize-winners in the “Lucky Dip” draw were as follows: €40 Sarah O’ Sullivan, Counguilla. €30 each to Sheila Brosnan, Moanmore, Castleisland. DANCE AND DVD LAUNCH
There will be a dance in aid of Quinn Hall, Kanturk on Friday night October 13th. This dance will be in aid of Millstreet and Kanturk Hospitals . Music by Noel Cronin Band, Micheal and Heather Sound 3 piece band, Mike Condon, Denis, Christy and Marina Band with special guests Noreen Ashe and Norah Hickey.
