FROM Tralee to Killarney, from Dingle to Cahersiveen, and from Killorglin to Camp, the whole county got behind the Bewley’s Coffee Mornings for Hospice, with coffee mornings throughout Kerry raising vital funds for Kerry Hospice Foundation (KHF) in recent weeks – and there’s more to come.
Now in its 25th year, the initiative runs under the tag-line “Every Cup Counts”, and if Kerry’s mornings have been anything to go by, there will be plenty cups to count.
KHF treasurer Mairead Fernane explained that while the bulk of coffee mornings took place last Thursday, September 14, each branch can organise their coffee morning for whatever date suits them best.
“For example, I know that here in Tralee, the IT will have their morning in the coming weeks, as will the Rose Hotel. There’s no problem with organising one for the date that’s most convenient, and that’s something we’d like to emphasise,” she said.
Mairead told The Kerryman that the mornings raise roughly €50,000 each year for the Kerry Hospice Foundation, a sign of just how important they are to the hospice’s work.
“We have our new 15-bed inpatient Palliative Care Unit opening at University Hospital Kerry in the coming days, so the funds are appreciated now as much as ever,” she said. “As well as raising much-needed funds however, it must be said the mornings are also a lovely social outlet.”
