Kingdom Wheelblasters calling on all to support their night at the dogs
ONE of the fastest growing sporting clubs in the county for children with disabilities is taking to the dog track in Tralee for a fundraising night they hope all will come out in support of - especially as it promises to be a lot fun!
The Kingdom Wheelblasters head to the Kingdom Stadium on Saturday night, October 7, next for a card packed with high-octane racing promise and plenty of other activities to keep everyone entertained all night long.
It is a vitally-important night for the club as all monies raised for its operations over the course of the night will go a long way to improving its members’ lives even more. The Kingdom Wheelblasters is 100 per cent voluntarily run by parents with its annual accounts forward to the Wheelchair Association HQ in Dublin.
And it’s making a dramatic improvement to the lives of the 14 young members from the club’s base at the John Mitchel GAA complex in Tralee giving them the opportunity to excel at everything from basketball and hurling to archery, badminton, self defence and even yoga.
“We are the only club of its kind in Kerry and have been set up on the blue print of the incredibly successful Rebel Wheelers in Cork. The success of this club, and also ours, has led both to being much more than just a sports club as it is a place where children with disabilities are flourishing having been exposed to friendships, social interaction, freedom of expression, confidence, pride and most importantly fun,” a spokesperson said.
All are taking part to the highest of sporting standards, with one of the Wheelblaster coaches a three-time Paralympic athlete themselves.
“The purpose and discipline that sport brings these children plays a crucial role in developing independence.”
