Ardfert School’s Junior Harvest Cycle goes down a treat with all
ON a glorious September morning last Sunday, 58 kids, all accompanied by an adult, wheeled out from Ardfert National School to take part in the inaugural Ardfert Harvest Kids fun cycle. As this was the first organised group cycle that a number of the kids took part in, the excitement around the school beforehand was palpable.
There was 2 routes, a 5km and 10km, and it was community Garda Seamus Moriarty who led out the 10km cyclists and headed out towards Liscahane where the young riders were faced with a gentle climb.
Shortly afterwards the 5km cyclist took off led out by ex-student of Ardfert National School David Fitzgerald.
Principal Betty Stack said she was delighted with how the cycle went and said the school was delighted to be associated with an event that encourages children to make positive life choices in getting out and participating in great exercise.
Back at the school, the pre cycle excitement didn’t dissipate as teacher turned DJ Billy O Connor was MC for the day and kept all supporters entertained with parents, siblings and grandparents turning up to congratulate everybody as they returned.
Billy was ably assisted by William Dillon as Junior DJ on the day. and as the cyclists returned they were presented with medals and a party bag by David Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Stack added this event was a real community effort which could not have gone ahead without assistance of the garda/first aiders/doctors/marshals/photographers/parents/teachers and the Ardfert Harvest Cycle committee and that they are looking forward to next year’s event already.
