Castleisland man’s photos in visual arts showcase
THE success of the Kerry Visual Artists’ Showcase over the past two years prompted Kerry County Council Arts Office to invite applications for inclusion in this year’s event.
The invitations were issued in May with an early June deadline.
The initiative is jointly supported by Kerry County Council and the Arts Council and recognises local talent and the importance of providing exposure for visual artists in Kerry.
Entry to the exhibition was open to qualified visual artists who are originally from, or resident in, County Kerry.
Artists working in all media were encouraged to submit samples of their work.
Kate Kennelly, Kerry County Council Arts Officer said that the arts department was delighted to be able to offer this exhibition opportunity to Kerry artists.
Philip O’Rourke, a relatively recent convert to photography is taking part in the exhibition. Philip is a native of Castleisland who has been living in Dublin with the last 12 years. For the curious, he’s a brother of local soccer star, Pa O’Rourke.
“I took up photography three years ago and have since gained my LIPF and AIPF from the Irish Photographic Federation, as well as an ‘Artiste’ distinction from the International Federation of Photographic Art.
One of my photos in the exhibition was taken in a local establishment in Castleisland and ye will have to come along and see for yourselves if you want to know more,” said Philip tantalisingly.
The showcase will take place in Killarney, in the Department of Arts exhibition space during September and October 2017.
