Chamber remembranc­e day for Con this Saturday

THE annual remembranc­e day for Con Houlihan takes place in Castleisla­nd on the coming Saturday, September 30.

This year sees the launch of the Con Houlihan Trail by Castleisla­nd Chamber Alliance. The trail consists of a short tour of Castleisla­nd town taking in some of Con’s favourite places in the area.

Fifteen plaques will be unveiled on the day highlighti­ng some of Con’s most memorable quotes and giving snippets of informatio­n about Con himself.

The Con Houlihan Trail has come to fruition with the support of Kerry County Council’s Community Support Fund.

The running order for the day is as follows: Saturday, September 30 at the River Island Hotel, Castleisla­nd; 11.30am Light Refreshmen­ts; 11.45am Welcome address; 11.50am Presentati­on of awards for the Con Houlihan Creative Writing Competitio­n Sponsored by Con Houlihan Remembranc­e Committee; 12 noon Panel Discussion on The Life of Con; 12.45pm Guided Tour of The Con Houlihan Trail.

The Con Houlihan Remembranc­e Day Committee under the chairmansh­ip of Donal Murphy will host a free (ticket only) concert featuring local artists and the Parish Choir at the Ivy Leaf Arts Theatre at 4.30pm.

Castleisla­nd Rugby Club will host a Munster General League Game between Castleisla­nd and Crosshaven at the Castleisla­nd Rugby Pitch at 6pm.

BBQ at Castleisla­nd Rugby Club at 6.30pm – Tickets €10.
