IT was a very memorable time for me and the best years of my life were spent in the Green. It’s a fantastic school and we won two Corn Uí Mhuirí titles during my time there, especially the 1999 win which was the school’s first in over two decades. That was a fantastic time in the school and it created a great atmosphere. Football was kept alive through the voluntary efforts of the teachers and it was they who kept this spirit and tradition alive. They were fantastic.

Gradually the school started to change in a very modern way which was helped by the fact more female teachers began working there. This changed the whole atmosphere in a very positive sense. There were some fantastic people at senior level in my time who were very prepared to take on the responsibility and management at various levels of the school.

During my time the teachers also organised an Arts Week when distinguished people visited the school to talk about writing, debating, music and other creative subjects. This really helped to broaden the curriculum. Teachers were also excellent at organising charity events and they created a great spirit that is still in the school today.

All schools come down to the quality of the people you have around you and I was fortunate to have fantastic people around me. The vision for the new school, which is one of the best schools in the country now in terms of facilities, was first shown by the late Sean O’Brien. He was very much supported by the staff and that vison and effort is there for all to see today.
