Kerry minors win eight All Stars as five seniors get nominated

EIGHT Kerry players have been selected on the inaugural Electric Ireland GAA Minor Stars Football Team of the Year announced this week.

Goalkeeper Deividas Uosis (Dingle), defenders Cian Gammell (Killarney Legion), Michael Potts (Dr Crokes) and Niall Donohue (Firies), midfielder Barry Mahony (St Senans), and forwards David Clifford (Fossa), Donal O’Sullivan (Kilgarvan) and Fiáchra Clifford (Laune Rangers) will receive their awards at a function in Croke Park on Saturday October 7.

Meanwhile, five Kerry seniors have been nominated for PwC GAA GPA All Stars.

Defenders Paul Murphy and Tadhg Morley along with Paul Geaney, Kieran Donaghy and James O’Donoghue in the forwards in a year, understand­ably, dominated by the All-Ireland finalists.

Dublin are represente­d by 13 players on the short-list of 45 names released by the GAA and the GPA and make up the cream of the crop from another dramatic football summer.

The nomination­s are divided into three goalkeeper­s, 18 defenders, six midfielder­s and 18 forwards with all nominees to receive a specially commission­ed certificat­e of achievemen­t.

The final 15 that make up the PwC All-Star Football team of 2017 will be announced live on RTÉ TV and will be presented with their awards in Dublin’s Convention Centre on Friday, November 3.

After their 10-match Championsh­ip run, Mayo have received 12 nomination­s. The remainder of the breakdown is Tyrone 6, Kerry 5, Roscommon, Kildare and Down each have 2 with Monaghan, Donegal and Armagh completing the high-profile line-up with one nomination each.

Dublin’s James McCarthy and Stephen Cluxton and Mayo’s David Clarke and Andy Moran are the four names in contention for the Footballer of the Year Award.

Short-listed for the Young Footballer of the Year are Dublin’s Con O’Callaghan, Cork’s Sean Powter and Galway’s Michael Daly.
