Tie-breaker rule could cost Fleming National Forest Rally title
Sean Moriarty
A third major rally title could be on its way to Killarney if a tie-breaker rule goes in favour of local co-driver Damian Fleming.
The Kilcummin man contested this year’s Irish Forestry Rally championship alongside Northern Ireland’s David McCrossan is a Ford Escort M2.
Following Saturday’s Bushwhacker in Omagh, County Tyrone, Fleming and Stephen Thornton (co-driver to champion Sam Moffett), tied on points. The situation will now need to be referred to the Irish Forestry Rally Championship committee. Fleming said:
“At the end of the rally I was handed a big trophy for the photographs but I was told on Sunday that Stephen has higher overall

Fantastic spectacle for Ladies sport yesterday. To think some suggested they should be shoehorned in before the mens final. Such nonsense

On yesterday’s game - it shows how valuable a strong Mayo/ Dublin are to the women’s game in terms of supporters and the personalities.

Dublin Girls were class yesterday, but how proud must Mayo people
results.”
If Fleming’s case is successful he will join fellow Killarney and District Motor Club members Keith Cronin and Mikie Galvin (British Rally Championship winners) as an overall winner of a major rally title in 2017. If not, he will still finish second overall in the national standings and is already declared the winner of the two-wheel-drive category of the National Forest Rally Championship.
Meanwhile, Cronin and Galvin are close to a deal to contest next month’s Wales Rally GB. Entries for the penultimate round of the world rally championship closed yesterday (Tuesday September 26th) but the West Cork driver told fans at the annual RallyDay show in England on Saturday that a deal was imminent.

People moaning about Dublin’s dominance, look at Ladies football. Mayo/Dublin/Kerry forced to match and exceed ridiculous Cork standards.

this weekend with the relatively local Cork “20” International Rally based just over the county bounds in Macroom.
There is a huge Kerry interest in the event with Faha co-driver Shane Buckley the top local seed . He starts at ten alongside Daniel Cronin (Keith’s brother) and they arrive in Macroom in fine form after winning the recent Clare Stages Rally.
Fleming starts at 12 alongside Stephen McCann in a slightly older version of Cronin’s Ford Fiesta. Both crews have won the Banna Beach Resort Kerry Winter Rally in the past ensuring a keen fight to uphold local honour.
Co-driver John McCarthy is another local competitor starting in the top 20 alongside Kanturk’s Barry Meade.

Winter Rally.
The popular end of season club motorsport event will run over two (ran three times each) popular and classic stages in North Kerry, but with slight variations to previously used formats.
Kerry Motor Club also runs the Circuit of Kerry national rally and clerk of the course Jonathon O’Shea has promised:
“A route more in line with what you would expect for the Circuit of Kerry rather than Banna. We will run as close to the permitted mileage for such event offering the best possible value for competitors and plenty of viewing scope for spectators.”
The rally is the final round of the locally sponsored Top Part Rally Championship and following the recent Clare Stages, the series is being led by local Ford Escort driver and Kerry Motor Club member Tim Enright.
