Kerry dominates TripAdvisor Ireland awards

- By TADHG EVANS

KERRY’S status as Ireland’s tourism capital has only been enhanced by TripAdvisor users over the past 12 months, as the Kingdom’s towns, hotels, beaches, landmarks, and restaurants all dominated the website’s reviews over the past year.

There was plenty to celebrate for the Killarney area, the Tralee area, Corca Dhuibhne, and Kenmare, with all four locations appearing on at least one list each. This excellence was borne out with Killarney named as Ireland second best destination, ahead of Tralee in sixth, Dingle in 11th and Kenmare in 12th according to the hugely popular American review site.

But aside from that list, Kerry dominated most of Ireland categories, including lists of both Ireland’s best hotels and beaches.

Banna was voted Ireland’s best beach, but Caherdaniel (third), Inch (fourth) and Com Dhíneol (sixth) were not far behind as Kerry almost monopolised the list’s top six.

Ireland’s top 25 hotels featured no less than seven Kerry entries, with Killarney proving particularly dominant. Killarney Park Hotel (fourth); the Brehon (seventh), and the Dunloe (eighth) all made the top ten, though the International Hotel (14th); the Europe Hotel and Resort (19); Ballygarry House Hotel and Spa (22nd) and the Killarney Royal (23) also figured strongly.

Elsewhere, Muckross House and Gardens has been named Ireland’s seventh best landmark, and Kerry was also the dominant force in the site’s rundown of Ireland’s best fine-dining venues. In this regard, the Chart House restaurant in Dingle was named the third best venue of its kind in Ireland, ahead of Rozzer’s Restaurant in Aghadoe (seventh) and the Lime Tree in Kenmane (eighth).
