The Kerryman (North Kerry)

That was a serious test out

- BY JASON O’CONNOR

IT’S telling after a game when one find oneself asking the winning manager more about the efforts of the side they have just beaten as opposed to his own players. Seamus Moynihan had no problem acknowledging the part St Brendans played last Saturday however.

“That was a serious test out there today. You could see that St Brendans had a pile of work done and weren’t going to lay down for us. I don’t think they did themselves justice in the Semi-Final last year when they played us and you could see that in their performance. We were lucky in the end that we had the legs to pull through,” the East Kerry manager said after his side retained the County Minor title.

Moynihan agreed also that while it might not have been his best game by his own high standards, David Clifford showed he was very much a team player in East Kerry’s win.

“Despite being marked the way he was, David was still able to make things happen for others and bring our other forwards into the game. It’s not just David that showed leadership it was also our six Kerry Minors in general. They came straight back into training after the All-Ireland Final for this and below them is a great abundance of talent who have worked away steadily since last May. There is an abundance of talent in East Kerry at the moment but despite all that and despite the work that has gone in, we were still only one score better than the team we played in the Final today,” he said.

Considering the fact some of the East Kerry contingent now have two All-Ireland Minor, two Hogan Cups and two County Minors to their name, Moynihan agrees it’s a fairly striking achievement as a former Hogan Cup winner himself.

“The amount of Football these guys have had over the last two years, the hunger levels they have managed to maintain to keep going after every success
