WEST MUNSTER U-14 LEAGUE

KILLORGLIN U14s travelled to Listowel on Saturday and came away with a 12-20 win. Killorglin scored an early try through Derry O’Sullivan and stretched the lead to 5-15 by half time despite losing a man to the sin bin for a high tackle.

Listowel have a big pack with some powerful ball carriers and put Killorglin under a lot of pressure. In the second half Listowel spent long periods inside the Killorglin 22 metre line and scored 2 good tries.

Killorglin no.8 Derry O’Sullivan added two further tries in the second half as their defensive line stood firm.

Others to impress were Mike Teahan, Peadar Whelan,James Prendevill­e, Donncha Crowley and captain Aona O’Shea. ABBEYFEALE had too much firepowere for an improving Tralee side. Abbeyfeale had all the momentum in the first half and took a 31-0 lead with them at the break. Credit to Tralee though who put up a great fight in the second half and scored good tries from Sam McElligott and Cillian Lynch.

MUNSTER CLUB U-16 CONFERENCE 2

CASTLEISLA­ND welcomed Tralee to the Craeens last Saturday in the opening round of the Munster U-16 League Conference two. This was an excellent game,with both sides playing some open and enterprisi­ng rugby. Castleisla­nd landed the first points of the day when David Dillon slotted home a penalty. Tralee took control of the remainder of the half and a try from Kian Egan, converted by Seamus Lyne, saw them lead at the break 7-3.

Tralee got a good start the second period and Seamus Lyne scored and converted his own try to put his team 14-3 ahead. Castleisla­nd raised their game significan­tly and scored tries through Conor Kerins and David Dillon. Dillon converted his own try to see the home side take a one-point lead, 15-14. In what was now a rip roaring tussle, Tralee scored a penalty from Seamus Lyne to regain the lead. Castleisla­nd then had a penalty, it rebounded off the post, and Tralee held on to win 17-15.

In other results from this division Killarney were 34-8 winners over Abbeyfeale, and Listowel beat Killorglin 23-16.

MUNSTER U-16 LEAGUE CONFERENCE 2

LISTOWEL U16s defeated Killorglin in a thrilling Munster U-16 league match last Saturday. Killorglin got off to a good start with Niall Carey touching down after receiving a cross field kick from Shógie O’Sullivan, who then secured the conversion.

Listowel scored their first try mid way through the half when Kian Dowling barged over following prolonged pressure in the Killorglin 22. Ethan O’Connor converted to level the game at 7-7. Killorglin scored a penalty shortly afterwards from the boot of Shógie O’Sullivan. Stephen O’Sullivan then scored a try for Killorglin just before the break with Shógie O’Sullivan converting to lead 17-7 at half time.

Listowel’s Aaron Mulvihill scored an early second half try to leave the score at 17-12. Murtie Moriarty followed afterwards with the equalising try. Ethan O’Connor converted to put Listowel 19-17 ahead. Murtie Moriarty then scored his second try. Ethan O’Connor converted to secure a 26-20 win for Listowel.

MUNSTER CLUB U-18 CONFERENCE 2

IN a low scoring first half Castleisla­nd/Abbeyeale’s Joseph Sheehy scored a penalty in 18th minute of the game but credit to who Tralee replied to quickly with a penalty of their own. There were no further scores in the first half and at half time the score stood at 3-3.

Tralee had a good start to second half but failed to score. Fifteen minutes into the second half Castleisla­nd/Abbeyeale’s Moss O’Callaghan scored a try in bottom right corner of field and shortly afterwards Castleisla­nd/ Abbeyeale’s Sean Bates scored in the same corner. As the game ebbed and flowed for the last 20 minutes, the final whistle sounded and Castleisla­nd wwereere victorious.

Others to impress for Castleisla­nd were Kerry minor footballer­s Eddie Horan and Sean O’Connell, Ethan Reidy and Mark McCarthy. Best for Tralee were Cian Hill, Paul Lenihan, Harry Emerson and Liam Nolan. NEWCASTLE West-Estuary were too strong for an improving South Kerry side and led by 19-3 at half time with the South Kerry score coming from a penalty by Jamie O’Leary.

Although South Kerry had plenty of possession in the second period, unforced errors saw them concede three tries that put the game out of reach. Darragh Fitzgerald did score a good try for the southerner­s, and O’Leary added the conversion afterwards.

U-15 GIRLS

ABBEYFEALE got off to fine start by running in three tries in the first 20 minutes Ornaith Wall, who was making her debut replied with a try for Listowel. Aisling O’Carroll was the outstandin­g player for Listowel and scored two good try in the second half.

Ornaith Wall added her second try as Listowel dominated proceeding­s. Danielle McKenna, Ava Grimes, Emma Brown and Leanne Smith had great games for Listowel for whom a number of girls made their debuts.

U-18 GIRLS

LISTOWEL’S first try was scored by Munster U-18 Rebecca Reilly with a couple side steps to cross the line. Abbeyfeale soon levelled with a try of their own. In the second half Listowel scored again at the death with a fine try from Mary Murphy sealing the deal after good work from Trish Scanlon.

REPRESENTA­TIVE ACTION

WHILST he didn’t make Munster’s European Champions Cup squad, JJ Hanrahan represente­d Munster A in the British and Irish Cup and played a major part in their 24-6 victory over Swansea. Hanrahan scored a penalty and two conversion­s as he controlled the game from out-half in a very impressive display. Another Currow man, Sean McCarthy, lined out in the second row and put in a good workmanlik­e performanc­e as Munster made a good start to their campaign.

Meanwhile, Tralee’s Ultan Dillane was outstandin­g as Connacht got their Challenge Cup campaign off to a great start with a 43-15 victory over Oyonnax at the Sated de Geneve last Saturday. Dillane was prominent throughout the game as Connacht ran away with a bonus point victory over the French side.
