GAA LOTTO DRAW

Scartaglen GAA Clubs latest Lotto Draw took place in O Connors Bar on Sunday evening October 8th. The jackpot was E9,800 and was not won. Numbers drawn were: 5, 11, 20, 23. Consolation prize winners in the Lucky Dip were as follows: E40 -- Ciara Tangney, Gortgloss ; E30 -- Denis Breen, Hazelwood Drive, Killarney ; Frank O Sullivan c/o Kearneys Bar Castleisland ; E20 -- Eric Corcoran c/o Pat O Sullivan, Denis Geaney c/o Pat O Sullivan, Siobhan Leader c/o Elaine Riordan. The next draw will be in Lyons’ Bar on Sunday October 29th for a jackpot of E10,000.

CANCER COLLECTION

The Irish Cancer Society wish to thank all those who contributed to their annual church gate collection, which was held in Scartaglin last weekend and a word of thanks also to those who helped to take up the collection.

NEW CD

Songs from the Past is the title of a new CD recently launched by traditional singer Richard Prendergast from Keel, Castlemaine. This is a lovely production and contains 11 songs and 1 recitation. Richard won the first ever All-Ireland Ballad competition held in conjunction with Writers Week in Listowel in 1977 singing The Roving Fiddler Man, his new CD sells for €10 and is available in The Country Market, Castleisland and in Daly’s Foodstore, Scartaglin. All proceeds will go towards Down Syndrome Kerry, so all support will be much appreciated.

DEATH

The death occurred last weekend of Cornelius (Nelius) O’ Connor of Droum, Headford who was formerly a native of Knockrour West. The late Cornelius was predeceased by his wife Ann and was in his 90th year. He is survived by his sons Edward, Jerry and Timmy by his sisters Nora, Mary and Joan and by his brother Patsy and by his extended family. Burial took place in Rathmore Cemetery. May he Rest In Peace.

PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH

The annual Diocesan collection in aid of The Propagation of the Faith will be taken up at masses in Castleisland, Cordal and Scartaglen this coming weekend.
