Gooch and golf pals help raise over €25k for St Mary of An­gels

ST Mary of the An­gels in Beau­fort paid a big thank you to the or­gan­is­ers of a golf clas­sic at Bally­bunion this sum­mer and all who played in it – in­clud­ing friend of the cen­tre Colm Cooper – af­ter it raised a whop­ping €25,889.

The money was pre­sented this week to the cen­tre at the lo­ca­tion of the July 7 clas­sic: Bally­bunion Golf Club. “This was the first big fundraiser of part of a big fundrais­ing ini­tia­tive to bring SMOA back to its for­mer glory, by re-sur­fac­ing roads, restor­ing greens and build­ing much needed ex­ten­sions,” one of the or­gan­is­ing par­ents told The Ker­ry­man.

The funds come as the fa­cil­ity – which is home to 76 res­i­dents with se­vere to pro­found in­tel­lec­tual and phys­i­cal dis­abil­i­ties – pre­pares to cel­e­brate its 50th an­niver­sary in 2018.
