IT’S been part of the social calendar for Rathmore and beyond for four years now, but if ‘Friends of the Children of Chernobyl Rathmore Branch’ Secretary Eileen Buckley’s rundown of last Thursday night’s fashion show at the Community Centre is anything to go by, we can expect the event to stick around for many more years to come.
Under the watchful eye of MC Diarmuid McCarthy, some 25 models, including three Kerry senior and minor stars with strong Rathmore links, and a host of special guests helped make the 2017 show another successful running of what is the branch’s main annual fund-raiser each year, Eileen explained.
“Among our star footballers on the night were Rathmore’s Paul Murphy, Kilcummin’s Seán O’Leary, and Chris O’Donoghue from Glenflesk, and they were part of what was a very entertaining occasion again this year,” she said. “There were over 300 people in attendance, so while we aren’t sure as of yet how much was raised, between the show itself and the prize draws we were very pleased with how it all went.
“It will go towards helping us bring young people over from Chernobyl in July 2018, and a huge organising effort goes into it every year. So many people took part in this year’s preparations, so we would just like to thank everyone who helped in any way in helping make this the excellent night it was – including, of course, the people who attended the Community Centre on Thursday!”
