‘Interest in Waterville GP position’

- By TADHG EVANS

THE HSE has confirmed there has been interest in a vacant full-time GP position in Waterville, and they will now move on to the interview stage of the recruitment process.

The position became available in early 2017 following the retirement of two GPs, Doctors Patricia and Dermot Gibson, from the Waterville service, which serves some 1,400 people.

The position had to be re-advertised in recent weeks after initial attempts to fill the position failed to attract interest. In recent months, patients with medical cards in Waterville have been looked after by a full-time locum GP, who has also participated in the South Doc rota in Waterville.

The HSE said it cannot specify how many people have applied for the post or any timeline for the rest of the recruitment process.
