Club Championship finals previewed

- BY DAMIAN STACK

IT’S the sort of thing you could easily get used to. The finals, the success, after a while they come to feel like a way of life. The thing to remember, though, is that they weren’t always. For a long time Templenoe could but dream about the position they find themselves in now.

“Absolutely we’re looking forward to it,” manager John Hussey says about the challenge which awaits his side this weekend.

“Any day you get to a county final is a great day and I think Templenoe are very lucky to have a crop of players with a very good age profile who have come along together.

“They [the players] mightn’t realise it, but you don’t get to finals too often and any day you do get to a final is a good day. I’m sure the club and the supporters will come out in big numbers on the day.”

The good times have rolled and Templenoe have made hay, gaining for themselves a wealth of experience along the way. Even if last year’s final is probably best forgotten, in that experience there’s still strength to be drawn.

“The boys have been there last year and hopefully they’ll draw on that experience, but look we won’t go looking at the past at all, just looking forward to the final,” Hussey continues

“Gaeltacht obviously are going to be a huge obstacle. They’ve been beating everybody all year in Division 1 of the County League, including ourselves, but at the same time we’re looking to put in a huge performance on the day and I’m quite confident the boys can do it hopefully.

“It’s been clear all year that the Gaeltacht have only had one thing in mind all year and that’s to win the intermediate and they’ve been going very well all year, beating everyone in Division 1 and even in the intermediate championship most of the games they’ve been comfortable.

“They play a nice brand of football, they’ve huge experience, a lot of their players have worn the Kerry jersey at some stage so they’re going to be a massive test on the day, but sure you wouldn’t expect anything less in a county final.”

Nor would we.
