Cronin wins again

KEVIN Cronin’s journey to boxing glory continues following another successful victory at the Munster Senor Boxing Championsh­ips in Cork last Monday night.

Having defeated Bernie Doyle St Aibhnes (Tipperary) RSC.2 in the semi-final on the previous Saturday, Kevin was in a buoyant mood when he competed in the final against Patrick Doyle, another St Aibhnes fighter. This was a 3+3 minute round contest, but the super-fit Cronin brought proceeding to a close in the second round with another RSC stoppage on his worthy opponent.

This is another giant step forward for the Milltown heavyweigh­t as he prepares to compete in the National Senior Championsh­ips in Dublin next month. As part of his preparatio­n he will travel to Mayo this Friday night to the Geesela Tournament. His opponent is Brian Mullen from St Ann’s boxing club in Westport.

A fantastic weekend of boxing took place at this year’s Esker All Female Box Cup from October 13 to 15 in Lucan, Co. Dublin. With over 300 competing, the tournament showcased the very best in female boxing from around the world. Cashen Vale’s Kori Goad won gold in the 85kg Girl 4 Category. Kori fought her heart out to beat Bethany Doucey from the Castlebar Boxing Club on a score of 5-0.

Eleswhere Cashen Vale’s underage boxers competed in Exhibition bouts at the St Pauls boxing club Nenagh last Friday night. Ryan Downey (Ballybunio­n), Aaron McElligott (Kilflynn), Ainle Foley (Ardfert), Kieran Stack (Lixnaw) and Donnacha Sayers (Kilflynn).
