A big weekend of club championship action ahead
THIS coming weekend is a big weekend for the Castleisland Mart Club Championships with three finals down for decision in various grades.
First up on Saturday is the Junior Premier Championship Final between Dromid Pearses and Firies in Killorglin at 4pm.
There is a double bill in Austin Stack Park on Sunday where An Ghaeltacht meet Templenoe in the Intermediate final at 3pm and Castlegregory play Listry in the Junior Final at 1pm.
The meeting of An Ghaeltacht and Templenoe in the Castleisland Mart Intermediate football final in Austin Stack Park on Sunday (throw-in 3pm) has certainly raised the interest of GAA followers in the county.
This promises to be an intriguing battle between two good footballing sides with the major prize of a place in the Senior football championship to look forward to for the winners.
Should the sides finish level then a replay applies given that the winners will not be in Munster Intermediate Club action until the weekend of November 12 when they meet Mallow or the Waterford champions. Referee is James O’Sullivan (Firies).
Dromid Pearses and Firies meet in the Castleisland Mart Intermediate Championship final in Killorglin on Saturday next, a game that throws in at 4pm.
Extra time will apply to this game in the event of a draw at full time given that the winners are away to Clare champions Naomh Eoin on the following weekend.
Referee for this game is Seamus Mulvihill (St Senans).
The curtain raiser in the Castleisland Mart Club Championship double bill on Sunday (1pm) is the meeting of Castlegregory and Listry at 1pm.
Credit Union Senior Football League
THERE are some important issues to be tidied up in the Credit Union senior football League over this coming weekend.
In Division 1 the relegation playoff between St Marys and Milltown Castlemaine will take place in Glenbeigh on Sunday at 2pm.
Both of these sides finished locked on 8 points ahead of Austin Stacks and Desmonds who are already relegated to Division 2 next season.
The Division 3 relegation play-off between Gneeveguilla and St Senans, due to take place last weekend was postponed due to a bereavement and it will now go ahead on Saturday in Castleisland at 4pm.
In Division 4 the title playoff between Keel and Lispole will be played on Sunday in Strand Road at 1pm.
Meanwhile on Monday, the Division 4 promotion playoff between Dr Crokes and Skellig Rangers, to decide who goes to Division 3 next season along with Keel and Lispole, will take place in Cromane at 2pm.
Convention
ANNUAL convention will be held on December 11. Motion and nomination papers will be sent to Clubs on Monday November 30 as per rule. Five officer positions will become vacant at Convention due to the “5 Year Rule” – Munster Council Delegate (2), Hurling Officer, PRO and Cultural Officer.
