Kerry sportsmen behind Balance Expo

-

A UNIQUE and innovative platform which brings together leaders from the worlds of fitness, health, nutrition and sport will be held at the INEC in Killarney on January 14.

The one-day event, Balance Expo will inform those who are health enthusiasts and support those who want to start to learn about creating and sustaining a balance in their lives.

The day is the brainchild of three sports people who have played to an elite standard in their respective sports and who have experienced at the coalface, the struggles in maintaining a “balance” in their lives.

“The day will focus on four key areas of fitness, health, nutrition and sport. These, we feel represent a holistic approach to leading a proportionate, happier lifestyle,” said Donnchadh Walsh, All-Ireland winner and pioneer of Balance Expo.

The event – which is partnered by the Bon Secours hospital in Tralee - will hear from sports psychologist, Gerry Hussey, world champion athlete, Derval O’Rourke, Waterford hurling manager, Derek McGrath as well as food blogger Rozanna Purcell and a host of other speakers.

Panel discussions will engage, educate and empower attendees by discussing issues like motivational barriers, setting healthy eating goals and will demonstrate innovative exercise concepts.

“We want to motivate people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to be active and eat healthy. Whether you are a trainer, a young GAA player or basketball player, or an older person who wants to get active and healthy, you will face different challenges. The Balance Expo will facilitate those early stage exercisers or the more seasoned health enthusiasts,” said former Kerry hurler and leader of Balance Expo, John Griffin.

As well as panel discussions and master classes with some of the country’s leading experts in the field of fitness, health, nutrition and sport, attendees will have the opportunity to have their gait analysed, conduct a health screening and fitness test, as well as injury prevention tips and a host of kids’ activities.

Former Kerry hurler James Flaherty, and organiser of Balance Expo, believes the event will create a window for those who are struggling with their mental health.

“Numerous studies have shown the benefits of our four pillars to mental health amongst all demographics and with that in mind, we hope to play our part in stemming the tide of mental health illness in this country.”

Exhibitors will showcase the latest trends and innovations relating to fitness, health, nutrition, and sport on the day. All ages and abilities are invited and welcome to attend.
